Post Viral Syndrome

Post Viral Syndrome

What is Post Viral Syndrome?

Typical viruses produce a variety of symptoms—most commonly fever, tiredness, lethargy, aches and pains, headache, runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, and cough. Post-viral syndrome (PVS) occurs after the virus’s lifecycle has taken its course and when your patient continues to feel tired and unwell for weeks or months after the initial symptoms present themselves.

There are a few theories about what triggers PVS, one of which is that the immune system did not completely clear and eradicate the virus. This can also happen with fungus, biofilm, parasitic, or bacterial infection. PVS is sometimes called post-viral fatigue and may feel similar to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). Patients typically experience lingering tiredness and weakness that does not improve with rest.

In addition to the typical tiredness your patient could feel, be aware of these symptoms: confusion, headaches, difficulty concentrating, muscle aches and pains, stiff joints, a lingering sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes.

Listen to Dr. Brockenshire Explain PVS

Dr. Davis Brockenshire, DC, Functional Medicine Expert and Physica Energetics Chief Clinical Consultant, share the possible causes of this syndrome in your patient, along with supportive suggestions and recommended supplements to consider.

Steps to consider as you start working with a PVS patient.

Identifying the Root Causes and Open the Case

Central to Dr. Brockenshire's approach is the identification of underlying imbalances, particularly focusing on the spleen as a primary organ system implicated in PVS. By understanding the intricate interplay of immune complexes and organs, practitioners can tailor interventions to address specific viruses or pathogens involved, thereby supporting the body's natural healing processes.

Open the Case and Support Drainage

  • Consider Drainage Milieu, Flu Milieu, Adrenal Milieu, and Liver Milieu. If you know where the virus is, use the milieu-specific product to support that organ.
  • Consider Spleen LF to support all the immune complexes and cells.
  • Consider the Baicalin Skullcap, which can lay waste to viral patterns and support the long-drawn-out issues of Post-Viral Syndrome.

Further considerations to add to a PVS protocol:

  • HZ-Tox for the Herpes virus.
  • Viru-Tox if you don’t know what specific virus your patient is dealing with.
  • Mono-Tox is indicated for mononucleosis, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and cytomegalovirus.
  • Mycoplasma-Tox may support patients with walking pneumonia occurrence and recurrence.
  • Bacteria-Tox should be considered in cases of Lyme Disease or a Lyme flare after sickness, especially with transient joint pain, a hallmark flare symptom.

Virus Prevention Support

In addition to addressing existing symptoms, Dr. Brockenshire underscores the significance of proactive measures to prevent future viral infections. By enhancing overall vitality and immune resilience, patients can mitigate the risk of recurrence, paving the way for long-term health and well-being.

Steps to Support Your Patient

Dr. Brockenshire summarizes the steps to support frustrated patients suffering from PVS seeking a solution to their lasting symptoms.

  1. Set the base of post-viral support.
  2. Support your patient with energy with dietary recommendations: bone broth, nourishing soups, hydration, mineral-dense antioxidant-rich meals, medicinal mushrooms, and protein.
  3. Support their spleen and liver.
  4. Incorporate drainage.
  5. Ensure the gut functions optimally with regular bowel movements; if not, consider using GALT.
  6. Support the kidneys.

These steps and the information shared in the video are based on Dr. Brockenshire's 20-plus years of clinical work and experience. They are shared to offer you his clinical pearls and, in turn, relief and a healing progression for your patient’s lasting symptoms. Your confidence can contribute to your patient’s relief that there is a path to recovery.

Navigating Post-Viral Syndrome can be a daunting journey. By addressing underlying imbalances, implementing targeted products, and prioritizing preventive measures, you can empower your patients to reclaim their vitality and embark on a path to lasting recovery. Dr. Brockenshire's wealth of clinical experience serves as a beacon of reassurance, offering both practitioners and patients alike a roadmap toward healing and restoration.
