Camu Camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a low-growing shrub found throughout the Amazon rain forests of Peru and Brazil. The powerful phytochemicals and amino acids have a surprising range of therapeutic effects. Camu camu has astringent, antigenotoxic antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, emollient, and nutritional properties. According to a 2008 study published in the Journal of Cardiology, camu camu berry extracts were shown to reduce the levels of oxidative stress markers like urinary 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine, thereby improving the inflammation and oxidative stress levels of the participants.

Eleuthero root (Eleutherococcus senticosus), specially formulated and sometimes called Siberian Ginseng, is difficult to source as its growing cycle is challenging! Eleuthero contains many chemicals that affect the brain, immune system, and certain hormones. People use eleuthero for genital herpes, diabetes, athletic performance, memory and thinking skills, the common cold, and many other conditions. Eleuthero may improve or speed up the healing process by boosting the immune system. A 2020 review reported the benefits of eleuthero as a prophylactic (preventive) medication during influenza epidemics. These clinical trials suggest that eleuthero may decrease mortality rates and complications from the flu. Examples of complications may include pneumonia (fluid in the lungs from a lung infection), bronchitis (swollen lung airways), and otitis (ear infection). Another review of older studies stated eleuthero may decrease complications and mortality rates in people with viral lung infections. In addition to helping with viral lung infections, eleuthero has been cited with lowering the number of genital herpes outbreaks, according to the National Library of Medicine.

Licorice root (Gylcyrrhiza glabra) can help support the adrenals, thyroid, and reticuloendothelial system – the body's first defense against infection. Licorice root contains beneficial compounds like glycyrrhizin, which has antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Licorice root extract and its glycyrrhizin may help treat peptic ulcers. These painful sores develop in the stomach, lower esophagus, or small intestine, usually due to H. pylori bacteria. Multiple studies have shown that licorice root prevents and treats ulcers. It does this by increasing mucus production in the stomach and soothing the lining. Licorice also increases the blood supply to the stomach, which promotes healing. Licorice also prevents ulcers from forming in the first place by suppressing gastrin production in the body. Several studies have described the antiviral and antibacterial effects of licorice root. Licorice root’s phytochemicals slow down viral replication and hinder bacterial growth.
