Product Overview

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a precursor and metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin. The naturally occurring essential amino acid tryptophan, when acted upon by the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, converts to 5-HTP.

5-HTP is then decarboxylated to serotonin, thereby elevating extracellular serum serotonin levels. This occurs both in the nervous system tissue and in the liver. In the target-specific nanosphere liposome form, it is not enzymatically degraded, nor do amino acids compete with it for absorption, allowing it to cross the blood-brain barrier easily.

Lifestyles and dietary practices of modern living in this stress-filled era contribute to lowered serotonin levels within the brain. As a result, many people are overweight, crave sugar and carbohydrates, experience bouts of depression, get frequent headaches, and have vague muscle aches and pain. All of these and much more may be correctable by raising brain serotonin levels.

5-HTP has a role in serotonin stability and production and can positively affect many health-related circumstances. A drug-free option that may improve mood gives patients an edge in dealing with pain and illness. A naturally created sense of well-being can help to alleviate symptoms of other medical conditions, making the serotonin support, what 5-HTP offers, a significant healing advantage.

Beyond its application for antidepressant use in managing mood disorders, 5-HTP has been shown to offer nutritional benefits for symptoms of eating disorders, autism, fibromyalgia, migraine headache pain, and premenstrual syndrome. Favorable nutritional indications for 5-HTP have also been found for patients with heart disease, narcolepsy, and obesity. 5-HTP has been linked to the pineal gland in promoting melatonin production for insomnia.

Other neurotransmitters and CNS chemicals, such as melatonin, dopamine, nor-epinephrine, and beta-endorphin, have also been shown to increase following oral administration of assimilable 5-HTP.

When serotonin levels are out of balance or deficient, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and insomnia are more likely to occur.
Liposomes may significantly increase absorption & assimilation and protect from stomach & duodenal acids.
